Before you start

What this does

A warehouse is a place where you keep stock, such as a godown, a shop floor or a returns area. Every stock movement in Inventory is recorded against a warehouse, so it helps to set them up first.

Before you start

  • You are allowed to add or change warehouses.
  • You know which branch of your company the warehouse belongs to.

Add a warehouse

Select Masters and then Warehouses. Select New warehouse. If you have none yet, the page offers Create your first warehouse.

Under Basic information, enter the Warehouse name. This is required. You can add a Code too, which must be unique in your company. Choose the Type: the list includes Standard, Transit, Damaged, Quarantine, Consignment, Job worker and Virtual. Choose the Branch. Shared warehouses serve every branch.

Under Location, you can enter the address, city, state, country and pincode. Latitude and Longitude are optional; set both to show the warehouse on the map.

Under Capacity, Maximum stock units is the most the warehouse can hold. Leave it empty if there is no fixed limit. You can also enter its area and the area unit.

Under Inventory controls, Negative stock lets you Allow or Block selling more than you hold, or follow your company policy. Tick Default warehouse if documents should use this one when no warehouse is named.

Select Create warehouse. You will see Warehouse created successfully.

Make it the default, or switch it off

Open the actions menu on a warehouse row. Set as default makes it the default. Deactivate takes it out of the dropdowns but keeps every record. Activate brings it back.

Delete removes a warehouse, but only when no documents or stock movements use it. If it is blocked, deactivate it instead.
