Steps

From Inbox, open a conversation that no longer needs daily attention.
Archive the thread so it leaves your active Inbox.
Use the Archived filter when you need to find older history.
Unarchive or reply if the conversation becomes active again.
Prefer archive over delete when you may need the history later.
