Billing

Get started: answer five quick questions

Tell Billing what kind of business you run, and it shows only the screens you need.

  • Get set up
  • 4 steps

Before you start

Who this is for

Anyone opening Billing for a company for the first time.

Before you start

  • Your company already set up (in Smart Books or Manage).

Steps

  1. Step 1: Open Billing

Open Billing from the app launcher and choose your company.

  2. Step 2: Say what sort of business it is

Pick one: A shop, Wholesale or distribution, Trading, Services or Something else.

  3. Step 3: Answer four yes-or-no questions

Are you registered for GST? Do you keep stock? Do you want to record purchases here? Do you want to track cash and bank here?

Tip: Saying “no” only hides screens. Nothing is deleted, and you can change your answers later in Settings.

  4. Step 4: Start billing

Choose Start using Billing. The menu now shows what fits your answers — for example, no stock screens if you said you keep no stock.

What happens next

Billing opens on your dashboard with a menu that fits your business: Sales, Money, Money to Collect, Parties, Reports and — if you said yes — Purchases, Money to Pay and Items.

Questions

Do these answers create anything in my books?

No. They only decide which screens you see. Nothing is created in Smart Books or Inventory.

Do I need Smart Books as well?

Yes — Billing posts every bill and payment into Smart Books for your company, so your accounts are always up to date.

Ready? Try it now.

Open Billing in a new tab and follow along.
