Your customers and suppliers live in Smart Books. Billing shows them in Parties with what each one owes.

Before you start

Who this is for

Anyone setting up Billing, or adding a new customer before making their first bill.

Before you start

  • The customer’s name, and their GSTIN and address if they are GST registered.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Open Parties

Choose Parties in the menu. You see every customer and supplier with their GSTIN, city, outstanding amount and last transaction.

  2. Step 2: Add a new party

Choose Add party, then Add a customer in Smart Books or Add a supplier in Smart Books. Smart Books opens so the party is created once, with one balance, for every app.

  3. Step 3: Find a party quickly

Search by name, GSTIN, phone, email or city, or filter by Customers, Suppliers, Has an open balance or Has something overdue.

  4. Step 4: Keep the list clean

Use the duplicate check to spot two parties with the same GSTIN, phone, email or name.

  5. Step 5: Open a party’s statement

Open a party to see what they owe, their open bills and recent activity, and their full statement.

What happens next

The party can be picked on your next bill or receipt, and their balance shows the same in Billing and Smart Books.

Questions

Why can I not edit a customer inside Billing?

Billing keeps no copy of your parties. Changing them in Smart Books means every app sees the same details.

Can I export my party list?

Yes, use Export on the Parties screen.
