In India an item's MRP (maximum retail price) already includes every tax. Billing can warn you, or stop you, when a sale line is priced above that MRP. The company owner decides which. This article explains what you will see on the bill and how the owner sets it up.
What happens when a line is above the MRP
What you see depends on the company's setting:
- Allow with a warning (the default): you can save a bill that goes above the MRP. If the warning is on, Billing asks first when you save.
- Do not allow: a bill with any line above its MRP is not saved, whoever is billing. The bill screen marks the line and says "This company does not allow bills above the MRP."
The question when saving
When bills above the MRP are allowed and the warning is on, Save shows a message such as "This line is above its MRP" (or "2 lines are above their MRP" for more than one). It explains that the MRP includes all taxes and that saving charges the customer more than the MRP. It then lists each line with its price and the MRP, for example "Line 1 · Item name: ₹120 is above the MRP of ₹100".
- Select Save anyway if the higher price is correct.
- Select Go back to change the price on the line first.
An item that has no MRP is never treated as above one.
Change the setting (company owner only)
Only the owner of the company can change these settings. Other users can see them but cannot edit them, and the page tells them: "Only the owner of this company can change this."
- Open Settings.
- Select Invoice & Document Settings.
- Find the section Prices above the MRP.
- Under Bills above the MRP, choose Allow with a warning or Do not allow.
- Under Warn when a price is above the MRP, choose On or Off. This choice is only available while bills above the MRP are allowed.
- Save your changes.
With the warning On, the bill screen marks the line and Save asks before saving. With it Off, there is no mark on the line and no question before saving.
Tips
- If you only want to avoid mistakes but still allow exceptions, keep Allow with a warning with the warning On.
- If a price must never exceed the MRP, choose Do not allow. Staff then need to lower the price or bill the line at the MRP.
