A reminder in Notes is a due date attached to one of your notes. When things change, you do not need to delete it and start again. The Reminders page lets you mark a reminder as done, push it back for a short while, move it to a new time, or remove it. This article shows each of these.
One thing to know first: Notes does not send notifications for reminders yet. Nothing pops up and no email arrives when a reminder is due. Instead, the reminder appears on the Reminders page, on Home and on the note itself, so it is worth glancing at the Reminders page now and then.
Open the Reminders page
Select Reminders in the left menu. The page lists your reminders in groups: Overdue, Today, Upcoming, Completed and Cancelled. Each row shows the title of the note, when the reminder is due and, where it applies, a badge such as Overdue or Snoozed. Times are shown in your device's time zone, which is written at the top of the page.
At the top right you can choose All or Still to do. Pick Still to do to hide the finished ones and see only what needs your attention. If you have dealt with everything, the page says Nothing left to do and offers a button to show the ones you have finished.
Mark a reminder as done
- Find the reminder in the list.
- Select the round tick button at the start of its row.
The reminder moves down to Completed. If the reminder repeats (for example, every week), the tick button completes only that one occurrence. The reminder then moves on to its next time instead of disappearing.
Snooze a reminder
Snoozing is useful when you cannot deal with something right now but do not want to forget it.
- On the reminder's row, select Snooze.
- Choose 15 minutes, 1 hour or Tomorrow morning.
If none of those suit you, use the small form under the choices instead: enter a Date and a Time, then select Snooze until then. A snoozed reminder shows a Snoozed badge and the new time. If you leave out the date or the time, the form asks you to choose both.
Change when a reminder is due
- On an open reminder, select the pencil button. Its label reads "Change when to be reminded about" followed by the note's title. On a finished reminder the button is called Reschedule.
- In the Edit reminder window, pick a quick time (Later today, Tomorrow morning or Next week) or type your own Date and Time.
- Under Repeat, leave it as Does not repeat, or choose Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. You can then say how it ends: Never, After a number of times or On a date.
- Select Save reminder.
If you pick a time that has already passed, the window tells you that the reminder will show as overdue. That is allowed; it simply lands in the Overdue group.
Delete a reminder
Select the bin button at the end of the row. The reminder is removed and the page confirms which note it belonged to. The note itself is not touched.
Good to know
- You can open the note from its reminder by selecting the note's title in the row.
- A note that has a reminder shows a small bell, so you can spot it in your note lists.
- The upcoming reminders also appear on your Home page, where you can tick them off too.
