If you enter many vouchers in a day, a little more room on the screen makes a real difference. Smart Books has a Screen layout menu on every voucher entry screen that lets you decide how crowded or spacious the screen should be. Your choices are saved to your own profile, so they follow you to any browser or device, and they do not change anything for your colleagues.
Where to find it
- Open any voucher entry screen. For example, choose a Payment, Receipt, Journal, Sales or Purchase voucher from the Transactions menu.
- Near the top of the screen, select the Screen layout button, which has a small sliders icon.
A small panel opens with the heading line "For you, on every voucher. Saved to your profile." Select an option and it applies straight away. There is no Save button to press. To close the panel, press Escape or click anywhere outside it.
The choices you can make
TDS panel
TDS is tax that is deducted when a payment is made. The panel that shows the TDS working sits below the voucher lines. You can pick one of three behaviours:
- Open only when there is TDS keeps it to one line until Books proposes TDS, so the voucher lines get the room. This is the starting choice.
- Always open keeps the full working visible every time.
- Always one line shows only the TDS total. Open it when you need the details.
Line rows
Choose Comfortable or Compact. Compact makes the rows shorter, so more of them fit on the screen. This helps when a voucher has many lines.
Voucher header
Choose Comfortable or Compact. Compact uses shorter fields and smaller gaps in the date, party and other header fields.
Keyboard shortcut hints
Choose Show to see the shortcut reminders on screen, or Hide to remove them. Hiding them does not switch the shortcuts off; they keep working.
Quick links under the voucher
Choose Show or Hide for the row of quick links that appears under the voucher.
A good setup for fast data entry
If you key in a lot of lines, try these: set Line rows to Compact, Voucher header to Compact, and leave TDS panel on Open only when there is TDS. If you are still learning the keyboard, leave Keyboard shortcut hints on Show.
Good to know
- The choice applies to every kind of voucher, not just the one you are looking at.
- Whatever the TDS setting, you can still open or close the TDS panel on the screen when you need to.
- The menu is hidden when you print a voucher, so it never appears on paper.
- To go back, open Screen layout again and pick the starting choice listed above for each setting.
