About this contributor

Aicountly Inventory supports three costing methods. FIFO and LIFO hold stock as dated cost layers: FIFO uses up the oldest layer first, so what remains is valued at the newest costs, while LIFO does the opposite. Weighted average keeps one running average cost per item, recalculated on each receipt, with no layers.

Each item is valued by the method set on its own item master. If the item does not name one, the company default valuation method applies. The Valuation register also lets you view stock As per item master or under one method for comparison, and its Applied column shows the method actually used for each row.

The company default is changed under Settings, not from the register, because it re-values stock already reported. Your CA can advise which method suits your business.
